Sunset Sons To Release No Bad Days EP October 27

Sunset Sons, a quartet of three Brits and one Aussie, will join the Vagrant roster with the release of their No Bad Days EP on October 27, 2014! The eight-track EP will be the band’s US debut and was recorded in Wales at the legendary Monnow Valley studios with producer James Lewis at the helm. Check out their new single “She Wants” below.

Based in the surfing mecca of Hossegor in Southwestern France, Rory Williams (keys, vocals), Jed Laidlaw (drums), Robin Windram (guitar), and Pete Harper (bass), morphed from full time surfers making music for fun, into a full time band within just a year's time.

The band's sound is communicated loud and clear through "She Wants,” a driving song that lyrically narrates the thematic core of the EP... Girls, "lots of girls, different girls," laughs lead singer Rory.

Girls aside, the band is still very much centered on surfing, and is "still based in Hossegor,” says Rory. “That was part of the deal. We couldn’t write the songs we do living in, say, London. Hossegor is where we feel relaxed enough to write, where the magic happens. It’s our fairyland. Whatever happens with the music, nothing will stop us surfing.

WATERS Announces New EP, "I Feel Everything" Premieres Today

We are very excited to welcome WATERS to the Vagrant roster! WATERS will release their new EP, It All Might Be OK, on October 14th. Inspired by the growing absence of rock in “alternative rock”, WATERS began writing the 4-track EP which was recorded in LA with Ryan Rabin (Grouplove). Today, you can pre-order the EP on iTunes and instantly get a download of the track “I Feel Everything” which perfectly embodies the sentiment behind the entire EP.

This song came about after listening to alternative rock radio for the first time in ages and recognizing the lack of anything alternative or rock about it,” notes frontman Van Pierszalowski. “Where are those dirty guitars? Where is that frenetic energy? Where are the songs that made us want to start a band in the first place? Most days don’t feel like they’re going to be the best days of your life. Most days are kind of fucked up. And it’s nice to have a sanctuary for those days, and for us—that’s always been rock and roll. ‘I Feel Everything’ is our rally call to get that back.” Stream WATERS’ rally call via SoundCloud below.

After finishing school and coming off of years on the road supporting former music projects, Van decided to live and work in San Francisco, allowing himself to stand still for the first time in ages. The calm gave way to creative restlessness and the result was a new band and a new sound in the form of WATERS. Earlier in the year the band released the single “Got To My Head” which was hailed a “big high five of a song” by Stereogum and a song with “enough youthful sizzle” to make fans eager for new music by BuzzbandsLA. A new full-length is currently in the works, but in the meantime WATERS will support It All Might Be OK on the road throughout the fall including dates with Magic Man, Smallpools, and Cold War Kids. A full list of upcoming tour dates can be found HERE.

It All Might Be OK Track List:
1. Got To My Head
2. I Feel Everything
3. Over It
4. Down Together

Mark Lanegan Band to Release Phantom Radio on October 21, "Floor Of The Ocean" Now Streaming

On October 21, 2014, the Mark Lanegan Band will release a brand new full-length, Phantom Radio, through Flooded Soil/Vagrant in the U.S. Phantom Radio, produced by Alain Johannes, is Lanegan’s ninth release under his own name, his 20th if you include his collaborations, and close to his 50th if you include his guest appearances. The first track to be revealed from the forthcoming album, "Floor Of The Ocean," can be streamed below via SoundCloud.

Phantom Radio is now available for pre-order at iTunes. Click HERE to pre-order the deluxe edition and receive an instant download of the previously vinyl-only 5-track EP, No Bells On Sunday.

Lanegan's chief compositional tool on Phantom Radio was his phone – specifically an app called Funk Box. “I didn’t bother to hook up my 909 and 808 this time,” he says, “because the app had ’em. I’d write drum parts with it then add music with the synthesizer or the guitar.” The album grew organically from these synthetic roots, taking in Mark’s ongoing love of Krautrock and also an ’80s new wave show on Sirius satellite radio, his favored aural companion as he drives around Los Angeles. “They have a few good shows but the ‘80s one in particular I like,” he says. “That’s the music that was happening when I started making music. And although the Trees drew on Nuggets psychedelia, 13th Floor Elevators and Love, we were actually listening to Echo And The Bunnymen, Rain Parade, the Gun Club. A lot of British post-punk. We loved that stuff. I just waited until I was in my late forties before I started ripping it off.”

Phantom Radio track listing:
1. Harvest Home
2. Judgement Time
3. Floor Of The Ocean
4. The Killing Season
5. Seventh Day
6. I Am The Wolf
7. Torn Red Heart
8. Waltzing In Blue
9. The Wild People
10. Death Trip To Tulsa

CRUISR Signs with Vagrant, Pre-Order New EP All Over

We are excited to welcome Philadelphia's CRUISR to the Vagrant roster! Today, you can pre-order their upcoming EP, All Over, on iTunes and receive an instant download of the title track. Stream the new song below ahead of the EP's September 23 release.

All Over is comprised of three songs and was produced and mixed by Andrew Maury (RAC, Panama Wedding, Ra Ra Riot). The EP's title track cleverly allegorizes a love-hate relationship in the vessel of a sinewy pop song layered with contagious hooks and melodies.

CRUISR began in 2012 as the solo project of Andy States and quickly morphed into what it is today; an indie-pop band whose summery, feel-good hooks are infectious and stadium ready. States wrote and recorded the band’s first EP in his Philadelphia bedroom, fixated on the idea of what it means to craft a pop song. “I have an obsession with writing pop music and the idea that songs can transcend people.,” States says. “I saw that producer Jeremy Park started writing blog articles about how he recorded Youth Lagoon, so I wrote to him and sent him my songs asking for advice and knowledge. He wrote back and loved my stuff and helped me produce the first EP.” The six-song self-titled EP was released in the summer of 2012 and quickly garnered attention online and in the press.

Fast-forward to present day when CRUISR is gearing up to release their second EP, All Over, which demonstrates how fantastically Andy’s mind is able to translate pop hooks. “How does pop music make everyone like it so much?” States laughs, “Little kids hear it on the radio and just go crazy, singing stupid songs. There’s something that’s so smart about it, and a lot of things that people don't notice are the key ingredients to writing a pop song. I'm just really into trying to decipher what those things are and trying to make pop music in our own way.”

Formerly known as Cruiser, the band will go forward as CRUISR (out of respect for a fellow artist with the same name). CRUISR is Andy States (vocals / guitar), Jonathan Van Dine (drums), Kyle Cook (bass), Bruno Catrambone (guitar).
