School of Seven Bells Announce Plans to Release New Album, Video For 'I Got Knocked Down (But I'll Get Up)' Premiered Today

Throughout 2012 School of Seven Bells were working on a follow up to the critically acclaimed Ghostory. When producer/guitarist Benjamin Curtis was diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma in 2013 the band took a break. Today, School of Seven Bells is excited to announce plans to release a new album. Prior to passing, Benjamin had recorded  his portion of the record in its entirety, both before he was diagnosed and after, between treatments. Alejandra is picking up where they left off and heading into the studio to finalize the next record. Stay tuned for more details to come.

Additionally, SVIIB have premiered the official video for the track 'I Got Knocked Down (But I'll Get Up)' today on CultureCollide. Recorded in it's entirety to his laptop from his hospital bed at Memorial Sloan-Kettering in New York City, 'I Got Knocked Down (But I'll Get Up)' is Benjamin's final recording before passing on December 29, 2013 at age 35. Directors and long time friends of the group, Toby Halbrooks and Alan Del Rio Ortiz, created a visually stunning piece, revolving around cross-country road trip stops in Indio and Joshua Tree, that celebrates life while displaying its cyclical and inexplicable properties. Click HERE to view the video or stream the song below. The track is also now available on iTunes.

School of Seven Bells Announce Official Video for "I Got Knocked Down (But I'll Get Up)"

School of Seven Bells is pleased to announce the official video for the anti-cancer track "I Got Knocked Down (But I'll Get Up)" originally by Joey Ramone. Throughout 2013 producer/guitarist Benjamin Curtis had been courageously combating T-cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma. Recorded in it's entirety to his laptop from his hospital bed at Memorial Sloan-Kettering in New York City, 'I Got Knocked Down (But I'll Get Up)' is Benjamin's final recording before passing on December 29, 2013.

"It was a very spontaneous decision to record this track," says Alejandra Deheza. "Benjamin had been talking about the song a lot, and then he just decided he was going to do it. We couldn't record vocals in the hospital, so he actually face-timed with me and his brother while we recorded vocals in the studio. He spearheaded the whole thing on face time, would even tell us which knobs to turn and listen to levels etc. We'd even see nurses in the background from time to time! It was really amazing. But that was Benjamin, and producing was what he did. It was therapeutic and took his mind off being really sick. This song was really important to him and I'm happy we were able to record it."

Directors and long time friends of the group, Toby Halbrooks & Alan Del Rio Ortiz, created a visually stunning piece of which the trailer can be seen below. Revolving around a cross-country road trip stopping in Indio and Joshua Tree, the video celebrates life while displaying its cyclical and inexplicable properties.

The track will be made available for purchase digitally on 6/24 and the full video will be premiering on 6/25 exclusively on CultureCollide.com. Stay tuned for more details and plans from School of Seven Bells coming soon.

School of Seven Bells Announce Put Your Sad Down Record Store Day 10" Details

School of Seven Bells is pleased to announce the Put Your Sad Down 10" which will be made available at participating stores on Record Store Day 2014 (4/19/14). In August 2013, an extremely limited run of 500 copies of the EP were manufactured and solely on sale at a special sold-out benefit in New York City, to raise money to support producer/guitarist Benjamin Curtis' recovery during his battle with T-cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma. This marked the first and only time the EP was released physically.

The remaining copies unsold from the benefit (about 300 to be exact) will be made available for the first time since, this coming Saturday. Each of the 300 copies comes with a dust sleeve designed by graphic artist Blanda Eggenschwiler, commissioned specifically for the production and 100% of the proceeds went directly to Benjamin and his fight.

Put Your Sad Down is the last studio release recorded by School of Seven Bells. Benjamin Curtis lost his battle to cancer at age 35 on Sunday evening, December 29, 2013 in New York City after courageously combating the condition for nearly a year.

School of Seven Bells Premiere Genero.tv Winning Video For “The Night,” More U.S. Dates Added

School of Seven Bells recently teamed up with creative website Genero.tv to have filmmakers from around the world submit videos for the song, “The Night.” Watch the winning video the band chose below, and click HERE to view a few of the runners up as well.

The Brooklyn-based duo said, “This video really stood out for us in a big way. While there were so many amazing submissions, this one really did what music videos do best. It found a particular nuance in the song, and expanded upon it in a way that only the visual medium can. In a sense, being left behind makes children out of all of us. The conflict of the loneliness that suddenly comes over us in that situation, combined with the ecstasy of finally feeling free, is a really tough thing to capture, and we were so happy to see it brought to life in such a beautiful way. The casting is unbelievable! Not only is the resemblance incredible, the emotion in this girl's face is beyond her years, and her performance nearly had us both in tears the first time we watched it together. I'm not sure I'll hear The Night again without imagining this girl either dancing her heart out, tormented and trapped in a corner, or casting a dark spell over whoever left her there alone. It's exactly what this song is meant to look like.”

Benjamin Curtis (guitar) and Alejandra Deheza (vocals/guitar) have just wrapped up their North American headline tour in support of their third full-length, Ghostory, and have been jetting from China to Mexico, back to New York City, and will be in Japan this week. Several new U.S. dates have been added for later this fall, including two performances in Los Angeles, California at Filter Magazine’s Culture Collide Festival in October. For a complete list of dates and ticket links visit sviib.com.

School Of Seven Bells To Release Ghostory February 28

School Of Seven Bells are back with their third release, Ghostory, out February 28 on Vagrant Records/Ghostly Inernational. The highly-anticipated album finds the band’s lineup has evolved along with the music; formerly a trio, the band is now a duo: guitarist/producer Benjamin Curtis and vocalist Alejandra Deheza

Recorded in-between tours, Ghostory exemplifies a fervent progression of SVIIB’s growth as artists, preserving the common themes found on their last two releases but exposing them in different fashions. The familiar ethereal and enigmatic tones are omnipresent, surrounded by layers of influences from ‘80s pop, shoegaze and ambient electronic sounds. However, Ghostory comes with a story in mind; the tale of a young girl named Lafaye and the ghosts that surround her life.

“Everyone has ghosts”, says Alejandra Deheza; “They're every love you've ever had, every hurt, every betrayal, every heartbreak. They follow you, stay with you.” This detailed storytelling is evident from start to finish on the record, weaving a tale that moves between a fervent synthesized adventure and spacious lyrical euphoria. Tracks like “Love Play” and “Show Me Love” create a hauntingly indelible atmosphere that grab attention with the ambitious wordplay in the center of it all. Surrounding tracks like “Lafaye” and “Scavenger” entice the vibe of previous School of Seven Bells releases with their steadily dance-centric tempo and uplifting melodic progressions. Ghostory flows seamlessly and effortlessly, a result of the shared songwriting process.

Ghostory is our most collaborative music to date,” describes Benjamin Curtis, “Alley (Alejandra) and I have always written our music together, but always independently and on our own time. We knew we wanted to do something that was more sensual and spontaneous than anything we had ever done before, and that meant writing together in a room, coming up with ideas quickly and immediately reacting to what the other person was doing.” Within Ghostory, the story of both Lafaye’s and the band’s journey will be told.

School Of Seven Bells formed in 2006 as a trio (including Claudia Deheza) and released their debut full-length, Alpinisms, on Ghostly International in 2008. The group’s appeal grew exponentially, with their signature sounds stemming from pieces of electronic subgenres and shoegaze bands before them. By 2010, the group released the critically acclaimed Disconnect From Desire on Ghostly International and Vagrant. Ghostory is truly their defining work, beautifully crafted and haunting, with the story of Lafaye permeating the psyche long after the music stops.

Ghostory Tracklist:
01 The Night
02 Love Play
03 Lafaye
04 Low Times
05 Reappear
06 Show Me Love
07 Scavenger
08 White Wind
09 When You Sing

School of Seven Bells Announce Digital Single Release + Remixes

On September 14th, SVIIB are releasing a single for their track "Heart is Strange", off their recently released sophomore album Disconnect from Desire. The four track digital single will feature the UK edit of the track, as well as remixes of Disconnect from Desire tracks "Heart is Strange" by Pantha du Prince, "I L U" by Phantogram and "Dust Devil" by White Sea.

Band member Benjamin Curtis recently said of the upcoming single that "'Heart Is Strange', from the start, was clearly it's own animal. It was a song we took on tour with us for most of 2009, changing it's shape over and over again. Finally, influenced by a mind-bending night out we had dancing and listening to music after a show in Barcelona, it finally found it's final (and best) form in early 2010. We did this shorter edit of the song after the album was finished, and probably for the first time in rock and roll history, I have to admit that I prefer the edit."

As fervent Pantha Du Prince fans and both fans and friends of Phantogram, Ben was particularly excited for the remixes, praising White Sea's remix as "the real stunner here...White Sea is a brand new project from Morgan Kibby, who you probably know as the star of the last M83 album 'Saturdays=Youth'. I really can't believe what a great job she did with this song, and I can't wait to hear where she goes from here."
